LILY OF STORYVILLE - A STORY ABOUT RESILIENCE

 LILY OF STORYVILLE

Once upon a time, in a cozy little house nestled at the edge of the bright and bustling town called Storyville, there lived a curious little girl named Lily. Lily had a wild imagination and loved to watch educational shows on television, which filled her with wonder and endless questions.

One sunny afternoon, while Lily was glued to the TV, she heard a big word that she had never heard before: "resilience." It echoed through the room, and Lily's ears perked up. She couldn't help but wonder what on earth that word meant.

"Mommy! Mommy!" Lily shouted, rushing to the kitchen where her mom was baking delicious chocolate chip cookies. Yum!

"I heard this funny word on TV, 'ree-sil-ree-ens.' What does it mean?"

Her mom, with a warm smile, put down the mixing bowl and said, "Oh, sweetie, the word you heard is 'resilience.' It means bouncing back or never giving up, no matter how tough things get."

Lily pondered for a moment and nodded. "Bouncing back, never giving up. Got it, Mommy!" she exclaimed with determination. But there was just one little problem—Lily couldn't quite get the word right.

For the rest of the day, Lily repeated the word over and over again. "Ree-sil-ree-ens, ree-sil-ree-ens," she said, but no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't pronounce it correctly. She even tried spelling it out on her little chalkboard, but it turned out to be a jumble of letters that looked more like a silly name.

Determined not to give up, Lily decided to wait until she heard the word again on TV, hoping that maybe this time, she could catch the correct pronunciation. So, day after day, she waited patiently, with eyes wide open and ears alert, ready to pounce on the word as soon as she heard it.

One evening, as Lily sat with her mom watching a nature show, a brave little squirrel leapt from tree to tree, escaping a sneaky fox, and the narrator exclaimed, "That squirrel's resilience is truly remarkable!"

Lily's eyes lit up. "Mommy, they said it again! Ree-sil-ree-ens!"

Her mom beamed with pride. "That's right, sweetheart! Resilience!"

Lily, with newfound hope, scribbled the word down on her chalkboard. But oh, dear! She misspelt it once again, with an 'a' instead of an 'i.' It looked more like "reaselience."

Lily's mom chuckled and said, "Well, honey, you might not have the pronunciation or spelling just yet, but that doesn't mean you can't learn it. Let's try again, together!"

And so, with giggles and laughter, Lily and her mom embarked on a playful journey of discovery. They read books about resilient animals and brave adventurers who never gave up. Mom shared stories of her own experiences, where she overcame challenges with strength and determination.

Lily also read Bible stories. She read about Moses returning to Pharaoh, over and over again, and refusing to take NO for an answer. She read about Eleazar, the son of Dodo, one of David’s mighty men, who fought the Philistine enemies until his sword stuck to his hand.

“That must have been very hard,” she exclaimed when she read about Jesus, staying on the cross for six hours.

With each passing day, her pronunciation and spelling improved, until one sunny morning, she stood in front of her mom, beaming.

"Mommy, I finally did it!" Lily exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with joy. "I can say it right, spell it right, and I know what resilience means!"

Her mom gave her a warm hug, her heart filled with pride. "I knew you could do it, my resilient little girl!"

Lily smiled. She remembered her latest memory verse and quoted it aloud to her mum,

“But as for you, be strong and don’t give up, for your work will be rewarded.”

2 Chronicles 15:7

“I will remember this always whenever things are hard,” she said, and her mum smiled.

And hand in hand, they both went into the kitchen to tackle the next challenging task of getting dinner ready.

THE END!
